Sony Implementing Two-Factor Authentication for PS4, Other Platforms – Report

Sony will apparently use a two-factor authentication method for those logging in from their PS4, PC and other platforms. The news comes via a support worker on Reddit who noted that Australia and New Zealand will be receiving the same either tonight or tomorrow morning. Other regions can look forward to the same by next week.

The authentication process essentially asks you to key in a mobile number for your account every time you login from a new PC or PS4. You will then receive an SMS containing a verification code to login safely with. Sony isn’t publicizing this too much but you will see it as an option in the Security section for your account.

As for other consoles, say the PS3, you’ll use a “Device Code”, an additional password you could have for the console and the ability to set numerous such passwords if you forget one.

The support worker also made sure to note that even with its planned release on Australia and New Zealand, “We’re not 100% if it’s going to go to plan, but if it does the plan is to roll it out to other EU regions soon after.”

What are your thoughts on this new security measure? Let us know below.
