Destiny is without a doubt the more popular and more influential game of the two, but it is actually surprising the sheer number of things that The Division does better, things that Bungie would do well to appropriate with Destiny 2, which is set to launch next year.
On a most basic level, these things include some obvious stuff- have a PC version of the game, as an example, or have QoL improvements so that joining a party is seamless and achieved in game, rather than the fiddling of menus and loading screens that the process currently entails. Others are more related to game balance- allow players to maybe reroll any slot on any bit of gear they have at any time, but progressively increase costs for rerolling that one slot with each subsequent time. Maybe have smaller enemies littering the game world (which should no longer be segmented), to act as mini bosses to engage players and squads, in addition to the regular missions and enemies that are already in the world,
There’s honestly a whole lot that Bungie could be learning from The Division, so let’s hope that they ave their eyes open, and are making a note of exactly what it is about Ubisoft’s game that players like. Having a Destiny 2 that resembles The Division in some ways wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
