With the Nintendo NX, we already know that Nintendo plan on unveiling the console some time later this year- in fact, comments made by their executives seem to indicate that a full reveal is coming around Fall some time.
Fall is interesting, because it happens to coincide with Gamescom, the biggest games show in Europe - and an event that Nintendo happens to be attending, too. So putting two and two together, the question that arises naturally as a result is, could Nintendo be gearing up for a Gamescom reveal for their upcoming console?
It is tempting to think that that might happen, but there are actually a few fairly compelling reasons why that might just be wishful thinking- let’s start with the fact that Gamescom is not held in Fall, but technically in the Summer, which means that it’s outside of Nintendo’s self prescribed window for Fall. Then, there is the fact that Nintendo are unlikely to unveil their next new console at a European show- while they have started taking the European market a bit more seriously in the last few years, the fact remains that Europe remains a bit of an afterthought for Nintendo in the larger scheme of things- this may not be something that European Nintendo fans want to hear, but it is true nonetheless.
Then there is the simple consideration, and the final nail in the coffin for this speculation, that Nintendo’s booth for Gamescom is actually small- very small, in fact. It is small enough that there is no possibility for Nintendo to be debuting their shiny new system, and one that is paramount to their future in the console market, in that– if they had registered a bigger booth, there may have been some admissible possibility of their unveiling the NX at the event- but they don’t, and that, perhaps more than anything else, should put all of this speculation to rest.
