Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra: Project Scorpio Is ‘Going Well’

We’re headed into the new year, the year that Microsoft will finally be detailing more of their upcoming Xbox One Scorpio, ahead of its Holiday 2017 launch. However, it’s not like they haven’t talked about the system so far- in fact, one could easily make the argument that they have talked too much about it. So of course, excited and eager fans want to learn more of it.

When Xbox’s Mike Ybarra decided to take to Twitter to answer some of these questions, we ended up learning a whole lot about the system, and about Xbox in general. Ybarra confirmed that development on the Scorpio is ‘going well,’ which… isn’t actually much, but I imagine it’s all that we’ll get.

In other news, he also decided to clear the air on some of Xbox’s other policies and initiatives. Discussing, for instance, why HDR compatibility for games like Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 was only present in the Xbox versions, and not the PC ones, Ybarra pointed out, correctly, that there aren’t a whole lot of PC monitors out there yet that support HDR.

Ybarra also promised that the upcoming Dolby Atmos functionality on Xbox will ‘eventually’ be compatible with everything, including third party apps, which makes it sound like it will be restricted to Blu Ray and UHD Blu Ray playback for now. Still, it’s good to know that won’t be the case forever.

It’ll be exciting to see how this, and all the other new things going on behind the scenes at Xbox, pan out in 2017. It should be an exciting year for Xbox fans, that’s for sure.
