Overwatch PTR Updated With New Oasis Map

Though Blizzard announced that Oasis, Overwatch’s brand new Control map, would be hitting the Public Test Realm in December, it seems Christmas has come early for PC players. Yesterday’s maintenance led to a new patch which saw the PTR updated with Oasis. Those on PC who want to check it out simply need to download the PTR version and hop right in.

Oasis is an intriguing map. Set in the Arabian Desert, it’s a city devoted to scientific research and advancement. It’s also fairly interesting since players can be killed by environmental hazards like speeding cars. Watch out for the Lucio boops there.

It’s not yet confirmed when Oasis will be ready for full release but given how Symmetra will also be on the PTR for the time being (not to mention the upcoming Christmas event), it’s highly likely that it hits all platforms by December end. Time will tell though so stay tuned for more information.

The Last Guardian Director Has A Heartfelt Message For The Players

Shadow of the Colossus released in 2006. The Last Guardian has been in development for nine years, and we’ve known of its existence, and been waiting for it, for over half that period. But, much like that other Japanese game that we thought would never release, The Last Guardian is finally going to release in a few days.

To commemorate this occasion, the director of the game, visionary auteur Fumito Ueda, has a note included with the game- a note in which he acknowledges and admits that the game’s development was troubled, but promises that it will be an experience like no other nonetheless.

You can check out the text of the note, courtesy of Eurogamer, below. The Last Guardian launches exclusively for PS4 on December 6.

Dear Adventurers
It’s been a long time coming, but I take great pleasure (and relief!) in knowing that The Last Guardian is in your hands.

When we first began work on The Last Guardian, I intended it to take from and build on our experience working in ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, making it something akin to a greatest hits album. Unfortunately, as you know, we ran into a few twists and turns along the way, and the title took longer than anyone expected. Still, just as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are truly unique games, so too is The Last Guardian an experience unlike any other.

As you play, take the time to stop and enjoy the scenery as you follow these unlikely companions on their journey. And you definitely won’t want to miss the ending!

The development team and I hope you all have a wonderful time with The Last Guardian. Nothing would make us happier.

Fumito Ueda.

Titanfall 2 Getting Multiplayer Trial On December 2

Respawn Entertainment and EA’s Titanfall 2 is an icnredible game, but it has found the going a bit tough in the marketplace, due to a poorly timed release, poor marketing, and just some burned up fans from the original game’s release. Now, in an attempt to get people on board with the new game, EA and Respawn have announced that a multiplayer trial for the game, which lets players play the multiplayer for the game for an unlimited time for as long as the trial lasts, will be available starting November 30 for EA Access and Origin Access members, and on December 2 for everyone else.

In this multiplayer demo, all post-launch maps, modes, and weapons will be free for all players. The trial will last until December 4, at which point you shall have to buy the game if you want to continue playing it- and I think most people who do play it will want to.

Titanfall 2 is available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Yakuza 6 Gets A Staggering 2 Hours Of Footage On PS4 Pro

Yakuza 6 isn’t much of a looker, but it manages to somehow look absolutely fantastic on the PlayStation 4 Pro, for which it will be enhanced, as these two hours of gameplay footage for it can attest to.The footage comes from the Japanese demo of the game being played on a Pro, uploaded by YouTube user motch51 , and it shows us the first half of chapter one, with a lot of side activities thrown into the mix and dramatically adding to the play time, too.

It’s actually surprising how good the game looks- I suppose it is also helped by not being bound by the constraints of the PS3, PSP, or PS Vita, which all Yakuza games so far have been (yes, this will be the first PS4 exclusive Yakuza game).

Yakuza 6 is due to launch soon exclusively on the PS4, but only in Japan- a release for the rest of the world has not been confirmed yet, but the game will likely be localized a couple of years down the line. By which point, I imagine Japan will be on Yakuza 9 or something.

Sea of Thieves New Trailer Shows Us A World Beyond The Ships

Sea of Thieves‘ showings so far have largely focused on the ships in the game, with maybe a few cursory glances at the islands every now and then. Now, with this new video, Rare show us the outposts that can be found in the game’s world, as well as how players can build them- and at last, we get to see a world in this game beyond just the ships that we will admittedly be spending most of our time on.

The video stars Environment Artist Joe Bradford, and goes into detail about this mechanic. Plus, hey, we get to see more of Rare’s excellent and promising looking upcoming game- that alone is a good excuse to watch it.

Sea of Thieves will launch on Xbox One and on PCs running Windows 10 next year some time. You can watch the new trailer for the game below, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

Pokemon Sun/Moon’s First Global Event Tasks Players With Catching 100 Million Pokemon

The very first Global Mission for Pokemon Sun/Moon is now live, and it tasks the players with the at first seemingly impossible task of catching 100 million Pokemon. You’d probably do a double take at that number and think it is massive, but it’s actually coming down to just 10 Pokemon per player of the game, given that Sun/Moon have apparently already shipped 10 million copies worldwide.

Players will have until December 12 to meet this goal. If they manage to accomplish this, players will win up to 2,000 Festival Coins, and even if the mission is failed, all participants will be gifted with 100 coins just for trying. This is an easy way to earn Festival Coins and upgrade the Festival Plaza, and it ties in, probably, with your standard style of playing Pokemon too, so go at it.

Pokemon Sun/Moon are available right now on Nintendo 3DS worldwide. They are an excellent, excellent game, and the best performing title of 2016.

Titanfall 2 Angel City Patch Now Live, Titan Kits and In-Game Store Added

Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2 has received its first free content update with Angel City, a popular map from the first Titanfall. The map is available early to those who pre-ordered the game and it will be unlocked on December 2nd for everyone else.

There’s an Angel City 24/7 playlist currently available and it will stay “as long as it remains popular” but apparently it’s possible to invite non-pre-order consumers if they happen to be on the same network as you.

The patch adds other substantial new things like new Titan Kits – such as Ronin’s Phase Reflex allowing it to phase out of danger when doomed or Ion’s Refraction Lens which splits the Splitter Rifle’s beam into five parts – and an in-game store for purchasing cosmetics. Other options include newer control settings for game pad users, an FOV slider and the usual round of bug fixes.

What are your thoughts on the new patch and on Angel City’s return? Let us know in the comments.

Skylanders Franchise Possible Cancelled Due To Lower Sales - Report

Just a couple of years ago, the Toys to Life genre was one of the biggest ones on the market, making big bucks numbering in the billions on an annual basis. Since then, Disney Infinity has been cancelled, Warner Bros.’ LEGO Dimensions has failed to take off, and Amiibo sales are no longer the kind of lightning in a bottle that they were- and now, the vanguard of the genre, Skylanders, which created the genre to begin with, may be due for a cancellation too.

This report comes from Unseen64, well known for their analyses and dissections of canceled games and behind the scenes reports of the going ons in the industry. The report states that franchise developer Toys for Bob are still awaiting word on their next project, with Skylanders 2017 having been canceled altogether.

The suspension of the franchise may have to do with the declining sales of the series- Imaginators was a dramatic step down from Supercharged, which itself was a step down from the previous games. While we await official word on this, let’s hope that the studios involved in the development of these games make it through unscathed.

The Last Guardian Review Embargo Lifts December 5

After the excruciatingly long wait for The Last Guardian, we’re starting to see the game hit all kinds of milestones. Late last month the title finally went Gold, meaning it was very close to ready to be slapped on discs and shipped out.

Earlier this week, the website Opencritic.com put up a timer that is counting down to when the game’s review embargo is going to be lifted. The timer is counting down to the morning of December 5 and after that time period, we’ll be able to see whether or not The Last Guardian is living up to the hype, at least as far as the critics are concerned.

Those who have been following the saga of this game know it appeared to be all but dead a number of times. Turns out it wasn’t dead after all. Now we just have to wait and see if it does indeed live up to the excitement that is surrounding its release. The Last Guardian hits the PS4 exclusively next month.

Destiny Weekly Reset: Abomination Heist Nightfall, Heroic Strike Modifiers And More

The weekly reset has come and gone in Destiny: Rise of Iron, the expansion that didn’t quite last in the game that never really got going, and that means new modifiers on pre-existing activities. The Nightfall this week is The Abomination Heist, a Year One Strike brought into Year Three. The modifiers include Epic, Berserk, Specialist, Juggler and Chaff. This can be particularly annoying given the enemies swarming you and the lack of a radar. Coupled with the lack of any flinch on enemies and it will take a bit of patience to finish.

SIVA Crisis Heroic Strike modifiers are admittedly better with Heroic, Arc Burn, Catapult and Chaff. Bladedancers with Skip Grenades, Stormcallers with Storm Grenades and Strikers with Lightning Grenades will have a field day, though beware of the Fallen and Hive’s melees.

As for this week’s challenge mode in Wrath of the Machine, it’s Vosik. What are your thoughts on this week’s activities? Let us know below.

Marvel vs. Capcom 4 in Development, Announcement at PSX – Rumour

Marvel vs. Capcom, the much-loved and wildly irreverent crossover fighting game, apparently has a sequel in development. According to Polygon, Marvel vs. Capcom 4 will be revealed at the PlayStation Experience taking place from December 3rd to 4th, coinciding with a tournament for Street Fighter 5.

Given how Street Fighter 5 was announced exclusively for PS4 and PC, could Marvel vs. Capcom 4’s announcement at PSX mean a similar predicament? We did see its predecessor on Xbox 360 and PS3 so it would be a bummer. But regardless, that the game itself is a thing would be amazing.

As for other information, it seems that Capcom will focus on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters with Ant-Man and Groot seeming likely. Though the X-Men will be featured, Magneto and Wolverine apparently won’t be featured.

Would you like to see Marvel vs. Capcom 4 this weekend? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for live coverage of the event this Saturday.

PlayStation Experience Will Feature A “Sneak Peak At The Future of PlayStation”

We’ve already discussed how this year’s PlayStation Experience appears to be more important than ever before, and it looks like Sony are gassing it up too. Their blog post about the upcoming event to be held this Sunday promises that the event will feature “announcements and a sneak peek at the future of PlayStation.”

Now what could that mean? Any other time, I would have said a new console, but that seems unlikely given that Sony just released two new consoles in the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro, as well as the PlayStation VR. They seem largely disinterested in the handheld market, so it can’t be that, either.

Most likely, it refers to major new game announcements from them. A new Marvel vs Capcom, as well as the long rumored The Last of Us 2? Yes please. I’ll take it. PlayStation Experience is going to be broadcast this Sunday. Stay tuned for more coverage.

No Man’s Sky Foundation Update Adds Three Modes, Base-Building Detailed

Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky has been the recipient of much criticism over the past few months but the developer has been hard at work on improvements. Many of those are coming in patch 1.1 aka the Foundation Update which will introduce base-building and serves as a “foundation” for future things. Check out a new video for the patch below.

The patch will add three new modes – Normal Mode, Creative Mode for exploring without limits and building a large base and Survival Mode, which makes the game much more challenging. The base-building feature will allow you to create an outpost of sorts where you can recruit aliens to research new tech and farm resources. Teleporters can be used to travel between space stations and your base.

Those annoyed with storage restrictions will containers at their base for stockpiling resources. Freighters can also be purchased for transferring resources. There will also be revamps in the UI, new graphical features like TAA and motion blur (the latter which can be turned on and off).

Patch 1.1 hasn’t been dated yet but you can learn more about what it contains here. What are your thoughts on the Foundation Update and will it revitalise interest in No Man’s Sky? Let us know in the comments.

Destiny 2: Should Bungie Drop Platform Exclusive Content?

Look, timed exclusivity for certain content to certain platforms makes sense - Sony and Microsoft can no longer procure full exclusivity for games like they might have been able to before, in this multiplatform game development era, so they instead try to get timed exclusivity on game DLC, to be able to push the game on their platform.

It’s done everywhere- but never before has it been done as extensively as it was done with Destiny (which shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise, given the PS4’s massive success). With Destiny, exclusivity for certain content for PlayStation was for a period of an entire year, with the last bit of exclusive content actually having its exclusivity extended by another year (meaning that by the time Xbox fans get to play it, it will be next year, and Destiny 2 will be out- who will play it then? Who will even care?)

Timed exclusivity for DLC is (sadly) the norm- heck, Microsoft used to do it with Call of Duty (before Activision went over to Sony for that), and they even had a month’s exclusivity for Skyrim‘s DLC. But that was all for a month at most- PlayStation fans still got to play that content within a meaningfully reasonable period of time. How it is being done with Destiny, however, is unacceptable- and I seriously hope Bungie drop the practice with Destiny 2 or at least make the exclusivity last shorter.

Fallout 4 VR Will Include The Whole Game

While most companies are mucking around with providing smaller, unimpressive VR demos or proofs of concept, or just vertical slices cynically named ‘experiences’, Bethesda are jumping into the VR waters headfirst, porting no less than the entirety of Fallout 4 to the format. And in a recent interview with Glixel, Bethesda’s Todd Howard confirmed that yes, fans can expect all of Fallout 4 to be VR, not just some small part of it.

“That’s the promise of VR, being in a big virtual world,” he said. “The core experience, meaning you put on the headset and you’re standing in the world of Fallout and can go where you want, just that little bit is every bit as cool as you hope it would be. Once we did that, we were like, “OK, we gotta see where this goes.” We’re not so worried about how many we’re going to sell or what the market is. That will all sort itself out. We have an opportunity to make something really unique. We’d rather do that than make some other tiny experience. I don’t think that’s what people want from us.”

Howard also talked about what he feels Skyrim, which was recently remastered and re-released, lacks in, and how he would look into improving that. “I think if you look at our worlds and our environments, they’re really rewarding. I think on the character side, how the NPCs react to you is still not quite where we want it to be. There really isn’t a part of the game where we can’t say, ‘That could be better,'” he said.

It’s good to know that Howard and his team aren’t just content to rest on their laurels, but that they in fact want to push the envelope, while also learning from their past mistakes. I can’t wait to see what these guys come up with next.

Call of Duty Infinite Multiplayer Update: Double XP Balance Issues Being Looked Into

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s Double XP event recently appears to have highlighted a fundamental problem with the game’s XP balancing, where the double XP yield appears to only be limited to the Score XP, leading to the overall XP multiplier being closer to 1.2x-1.4x than being truly double.

However, whatever the problem is, it appears it wasn’t by design, and it appears to be unintended - Infinity Ward’s Joe Cecot posted on Reddit (verified via his own Twitter), explaining that Challenge XP and Weapon Challenge XP are not currently doubled under the Double XP events, and neither is Match Bonus XP. Cecot said that Infinity Ward would look into fixing all this a bit, and bring it closer to what players expect (which would probably be how Double XP was handled and handed out in Treyarch’s Black Ops 3 last year).

That said, he also pointed out that the team did not want the XP yield rate to be crazy, so maybe players shouldn’t expect the game to get too generous. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Final Fantasy 15 First Ever Review Published, PS4 Pre-Load Size Revealed

It feels unreal, but Final Fantasy 15 is almost here- we’re just two days away from its release day after tomorrow. And to ensure that you can join in on the fun without delay Square Enix have put up the pre-load of the game, which is now live. Go download it, everyone!

The download size for the game appears to be 50.7 GB, and 6.6GB are needed to launch the game- it is currently unclear if this includes the day one update that will add a whole host of optimisations to the game. That said, the size of the pre-load appears to be identical to the file sizes in Japan, so that’s something, I guess.

It also looks like Final Fantasy 15 may end up being worth the wait- depending on your definition of the term. The very first review of the game, based on an early copy of the game being sold pre-release, is now out on Gadgets 360, and they have gone ahead and scored the game an 8/10, praising the characters and the flexible progression through the story, but criticising the poor music (which honestly surprises me) and the vague story (which I expected).

Does this reflect reviews and scores for the game at large? Can we expect similar reception to the game from everywhere else? And if so, will the wait have been worth it? I guess we will find out when Final Fantasy 15 releases on Xbox One and PS4 worldwide on November 29.

The Last Guardian’s Newest Video Shows Off Eight Minutes Of Gameplay

Can you believe that after such a long wait, not only are we finally getting Final Fantasy 15, we will also be getting The Last Guardian? I for one still can’t believe that this is happening. But hey, it’s coming, whether we believe it or not- The Last Guardian is set to launch on December 4, and we’ll finally get to see whether Fumito Ueda’s newest game was in fact worth the ten year long wait.

In the meanwhile, if you want to see more of the game, you can check out the video below, which shows off eight minutes of gameplay. Now, do note that it does have content that some may potentially view as spoilers, so if you intend to go into the game entirely blind, maybe you should hold off on watching this. Otherwise, go nuts.

The Last of Us 2 Announcement May Be Coming Soon, According To Industry Insider

Would you like a The Last of Us 2? I’ll admit, while I think the first game was perfect in and of itself, and hardly needs a sequel, I wouldn’t mind getting a sequel that explored an entirely different part of the world with entirely new characters. I do want to see what Naughty Dog can achieve with the world with the resources that the PS4 can afford them.

The good news is, a The Last of Us 2 may be coming – this bit isn’t news, we’ve had all but a confirmation for this for a while now – but it may even be getting an announcement sooner than we think. How do we know this? Well, well known industry insider shinobi602 is at it again. In a thread on NeoGAF about E3 2017, when someone posted that they would love for The Last of Us 2 to be announced there, shinobi left a tantalizing post saying only that ‘Maybe you don’t have to wait that long.’

It is to be noted that shinobi is a well established industry insider with a very good track record, so we have no reason to doubt him this time. With that said… what could he possibly mean? An announcement for the game before E3? The original The Last of Us was announced at the VGAs, after all, so it wouldn’t be much of a stretch for the sequel to not be announced at E3 either- maybe at Sony’s own upcoming PlayStation Experience awards?

Destiny Developers Teasing New Content

Destiny may be due for a sequel next year (one that we really hope supports your characters and all the hours that went into them from the original), but in the here and now, they continue to provide exemplary support for the current game, which just received its Rise of iron expansion not too long back.

It looks like Bungie may also be getting ready to share details on some new content headed to Destiny next week. On their blog post about Thanksgiving, where they posted about what they were most thankful for, they ended on a rather intriguing note- “We’ll be back in the swing of things next week. The cadence of new content in Destiny is about to speed up again. We hope you can keep up.”

This implies we’re about to get a whole lot new content than we have been recently, which sounds exciting (although to be fair to Destiny, lack of content hasn’t been an issue with it for a very longtime now). Destiny is presently available on Xbox One and PS4, with unsupported versions also available on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Overwatch Receiving Winter Premiere Tourney Courtesy of NGE

It’s a good time to be a pro-Overwatch player. On top of the Overwatch League and the recent World Cup, Next Generation eSports (NGE) has announced the Overwatch Winter Premiere. This will be a months-spanning tournament open to all teams in North America. You’ll need to register online first though.

The Winter Premiere will begin on December 4th with open qualifiers lasting four days online. After the top eight teams have emerged, they’ll battle in a double Round Robin arrangement over three weeks with the finals taking place over two days in January 2017. With a prize pool of $100,000 there’s certainly enough motivation to take part (though it’s unclear how this is divided up among teams).

CEO and co-founder of NGE Andy Vander Woude stated that, “NGE’s philosophy is to find the most ambitious esports partners and work with them to elevate their shows. That’s why we’re thrilled to work with Blizzard to create an eSports experience perfectly matched to Overwatch fans.”

What are your thoughts on the tournament? Let us know in the comments below.

The Division Update 1.5 Delayed on PS4, Slated for Next Week

If you updated The Division this past Tuesday, then you might have been annoyed as a PS4 player. Not only is the new Survival DLC not out till next month but update 1.5 – which is free and adds new gear along with a new World Tier – was also nowhere to be seen.

Ubisoft Massive explained in its latest State of the Game that the reason for the delay was “complicated”. Though the patch was sent to Sony some time back, it wasn’t accessible and as such, it was delayed further. Such a long delay was unexpected for PS4 but update 1.5 is now expected to release next week.

You can expect the update to go live on November 29th but stay tuned on Monday for confirmation. This delay won’t have any effect on the release date for Survival on the PS4 though so don’t worry.

In other news, those experiencing various connection issues like “MIKE” and “DELTA” on PC can be assured that these have been fixed on the server side. Though they may not disappear completely, you can expect the majority of problems to be fixed.

Battlefield 1 May Be Getting Progression System And Battlepack Tweaks

While Battlefield 1 was popular enough that it topped the NPD charts for October, it doesn’t appear DICE and EA are resting on their laurels. Instead the companies are working hard to listen to the gaming community and making changes where they agree those changes need to be made.

One change that could be coming down the pike sooner rather than later is a tweak to the game’s progression system. On his Twitter profile, DICE’s Producer Ali Hassoon posted that the development team has been listening to fans and aware of their complaints. He ended the tweet with “stay tuned.”

The game’s producer, producer Andreas Skolgund made the same kinds of comments on his Twitter account about the Battlepacks mechanics. If there is something that is truly controversial in Battlefield 1, it’s how those mechanics work. On his Twitter account he posted, “Thanks for the feedback! We are looking at making some additions to the system for the ones wanting more than the RNG.”

Now we just need to get DICE to say when these tweaks are going to be coming to Battlefield 1 so we can mark our calendars.

Don Bradman Cricket 17 Releasing December 22 on PS4 and Xbox One

Cricket fans are hard done when it comes to video games- there simply aren’t a whole lot of games catering to them. One of the series that does consistently give them a good cricketing experience is Don Bradman Cricket, by Home Entertainment Suppliers and Big Ant Studios. And today, it was announced that Don Bradman Cricket 17 would be launching for Xbox One and PS4 on December 22, with the PC version following shortly afterwards, in January.

The headlining feature of this new game, billed to be the most authentic cricket game ever made, is female players. “We have built completely new batting, bowling and fielding mechanics based on player feedback. With Don Bradman 17 releasing right in the heart of the Aussie cricket season, we’re looking forward to players recreating the classic moments of the summer of cricket in their homes,” Big Ant Studios CEO Ross Symons said of the game. ”

We were overwhelmed by the success of our first run at Don Bradman Cricket,” Symons added. “To this day players from around the world play it daily, whether they are simulating their favorite test team matchups, or playing games with as little as one over each side. We think they’re going to love the enhanced career mode, refined on-field mechanics, and enhanced visuals and animation. After all, many of the changes came as a direct result of feedback from our most dedicated fans.”

Don Bradman Cricket 17 will be available for $60, and pre-orders are now live, at least digitally.

Watch Dogs 2 Has Another Online Mode Incoming, Only After Stability Is Fixed

Ubisoft will be adding another online mode – a ‘minor’ one – to Watch Dogs 2, but only after the performance and stability issues that have plagued the other online modes in the game since launch are fixed. Speaking to the community, community manager Chase Straight confirmed that there is an online mode that Ubisoft are currently holding back.

“There is one remaining minor feature, ‘neutral encounters’, that will only be activated once we’re fully comfortable with the performance of the core seamless online experience. This is the feature where you can randomly encounter other players on the street in your world as you explore,” he said.

But a new online mode isn’t all that Ubisoft is working on- it should be clear by now, but Ubisoft is determined to iron out the stability problems the game is suffering from. “We’ll be monitoring and balancing the online game modes. Taking into account feedback we collect online, and also the in-game data,” Straight said. “We’ll be making some other tweaks to the online gameplay as well.”

Hopefully all of this is true- Watch Dogs 2 is a great game, and definitely a better one than the original, only done in by these minor problems. Ubisoft would do well to fix it.

While it’s still ways away, the release of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is drawing closer by the weeks. Set to debut in March of 2017, we’re starting to get more information about what we can expect when the title does finally launch.

One new trailer shows off the features the developers have been talking about for a little while now. Those features are the ability to not only choose how to carry out a mission, but what mission you want to carry out in whatever order you’d like.

Just how the massive open world Ghost Recon Wildlands is going to handle missions going in any order, with any kind of traditional story is something that remains to be seen. Ubisoft has said in the past there will be a number of Alphas and Betas going up as the new year starts so keep an eye out for thise. Ghost Recon Wildlands is due to hit consoles and the PC on March 7, 2016.
