Assassin’s Creed 2017 Planned For Switch Release

It looks like the reimagining of Assassin’s Creed by Ubisoft, currently slated for a launch next year, is going to be launching on the Nintendo Switch, too. Speaking on Twitter, well known Nintendo insider Laura Dale confirmed that she has heard that Assassin’s Creed is being lined up for a Nintendo Switch launch- it won’t be a late port, either, as apparently, Ubisoft want release date parity.

The new Assassin’s Creed game will be the first one since 2015′ Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. It is going to launch after the series took a hiatus, owing to the declining sales and critical reception of the games with Unity and Syndicate. It is the first time the series has taken a break since Assassin’s Creed II in 2009.

Assassin’s Creed‘s new game is planned to be a full mechanical reboot- apparently it will be set in ancient Egypt, and will be taking its cues from Witcher 3. Certainly, having a game like that playable on the go would be pretty sweet. Plus, Ubisoft were at the forefront of supporting the Wii U too, so seeing them be enthusiastic about Switch support isn’t much of a surprise, particularly given how openly supportive of Nintendo the publisher has been.

Mass Effect Andromeda Won’t Let Players Explore The Entire Galaxy

Mass Effect Andromeda promises players the freedom and ability to explore multiple planets at their leisure, as they also participate in the game’s epic story. That said, there will definitely be limits to that exploration- speaking to a fan on Twitter, Bioware’s Mac Walters confirmed that players in Mass Effect Andromeda will only be limited to exploring local clusters, rather than the entirety of the galaxy.

This makes sense from multiple perspectives. Having an entire galaxy available is probably improbable without utilizing the kind of procedural generation tricks that No Man’s Sky employed (and that players decidedly did not like); from a lore perspective, being able to travel the entire galaxy makes no sense without the presence of the mass effect relays, which are what allow faster than light travel in the Mass Effect universe.

Plus, you know, being able to explore more of the galaxy may be something that Bioware want to keep for future games in the series, as they build upon and add to the foundation that they create for this game. Mass Effect Andromeda is set to launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in Spring 2017.

Final Fantasy 15 New AP Farming Method Gives 500 AP In 15 Mins

In Final Fantasy 15, you use APs to level up perks and special abilities for yourself and your party members on the Ascension tree. APs are essential, as they can give you abilities that can change the tide of battle, and which can make survival in the game’s hostile world far easier.

So of course, a new method for farming APs, which has been discovered after update 1.03 for the game, and which lets you farm 500 APs in 15 minutes (for the uninitiated, that’s a whole lot)- and we’re here to tell you how to do it. Rather, we’ll let the video below explain exactly how it is done. As of right now, this is probably the fastest way to farm APs in the game.

Final Fantasy 15 released on November 29 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, after ten years of development.

Alan Wake and Quantum Break’s Linear Gameplay Was A ‘Missed Opportunity’

Remedy are an extremely talented studio- they changed the game with Max Payne, and while Alan Wake‘s impact wasn’t as far reaching, it was an excellent game that remains beloved to this day. And sure, they dropped the ball with Quantum Break, but everyone is allowed a dud or two- Quantum Break doesn’t take away from their talent and what they have accomplished so far. Especially when Remedy have a chance to learn from where they went wrong, and grow in the future.

Speaking to Polygon, Remedy’s Game Director Mikael Kasurinen got introspective about where the studio went wrong with Quantum Break, and to a lesser extent, Alan Wake.

“If you go back and look at Alan Wake ten years ago you could see us talking about it about how we dabbled with the idea of driving around in a car in an open environment. You could see even then that desire to go in that direction,” Kasurinen said.

“One way to tell a story is to create a rich world you can get to explore. When you look back at Alan Wake and Quantum Break, you can see we spent a lot of time looking at the shape of those worlds, the cities, towns, neat characters, maps. We spent a lot of time in crafting those universes, if you will. The gameplay is actually a linear story through those amazing, complicated worlds. In one way, it’s a bit of a lost opportunity.

“I think they could have been bigger [games] easily. Alan Wake had a long history of development, but it was through years of events that it took the shape it took. A lot of concepts were created through that journey. It felt like there was this world of concept and complex storyline that was left aside. The key point that we learned from that experience is that the world building we do needs to connect with the gameplay. Gameplay needs to enable organic experiences and interactions with the world. We still want to create strong worlds, but the game should be crafted in such a way that allows this exploration.”

I personally am glad to see Remedy coming around to this. While I am not of the school of thought that every video game ever needs to be open world, interactivity and player agency are still key components of a video game- the more that there is of either in a video game, the better. I am glad to see Remedy recognize that. Hopefully their next game is as much of a departure from their output so far as Max Payne was from third person shooters until then.

PSN Store Now Details PS4 Pro Improvements For Games

A month and a half after it initially launched, Sony have finally updated the PSN Store so that game pages for PS4 Pro enhanced titles list all the improvements that users will be getting if they play them on Sony’s newest console. Until now, the PSN Store did not tell users what benefits they would get by playing a game on the PS4 Pro, or even if the game would support the PS4 Pro at all.

That changes now. As of right now, only first party games seem to be getting their descriptions updated, with the assumption being that third parties will have to work on updating their own listings. An interesting fact that has emerged in these listings appears to be the term ‘PS4 Pro HD’, which is possibly Sony’s fancy way of saying ‘greater than 1080p resolution, but not 4K.’

It’s good to see that Sony are attempting to do a better job at clearing the air around the PS4 Pro, especially since their messaging around the system has been one big mess so far.

Nintendo Switch FCC Filing Reveals More Details About The Hardware

With the Nintendo Switch just three months away from launch, and barely over two weeks from a full reveal, Nintendo have decided to file an FCC filing for the new device (via NeoGAF). This filing reveals some small, but important, details about the upcoming new system from Nintendo.

The most important thing here is that the Switch apparently supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wifi- 2.4GHz is an older standard, that allows connectivity over longer distances, but is relatively slower. It is the standard found in the PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and the original PS4 models. 5GHz Wifi has a lower range, but is incredibly fast by comparison- it is the Wifi that the PS4 Pro uses. Switch being a handheld system that will primarily connect to the internet wirelessly, it was important for Nintendo to not skimp out on supporting the latest Wifi standards. The good news is, they appear to be going with the latest.

We also learn that the Switch will apparently not support 4G/LTE, meaning if you want to play online, you will need to be connected to Wifi- although I suppose that could come from simply tethering to your smartphone as well. And, in some cool but inessential information, we learn that the Switch’s internal hardware identifier code is HAC (the system itself being HAC 001). Previous Nintendo systems have carried identifiers that were abbreviations of their codenames- the Wii had RVL, the Gamecube had DOL, the DS had NTR, and so on. But the Switch’s codename was NX- so what does HAC stand for? Who knows? A fun theory is that it stands for Handheld And Console, which does make sense, given the device’s form factor.

The Nintendo Switch is due to launch worldwide in March 2017; we will learn more about it on January 12 and January 13, when Nintendo will hold events worldwide detailing the capabilities of the system, its launch lineup, third party support, pricing, and launch date, among other things.

Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra: Project Scorpio Is ‘Going Well’

We’re headed into the new year, the year that Microsoft will finally be detailing more of their upcoming Xbox One Scorpio, ahead of its Holiday 2017 launch. However, it’s not like they haven’t talked about the system so far- in fact, one could easily make the argument that they have talked too much about it. So of course, excited and eager fans want to learn more of it.

When Xbox’s Mike Ybarra decided to take to Twitter to answer some of these questions, we ended up learning a whole lot about the system, and about Xbox in general. Ybarra confirmed that development on the Scorpio is ‘going well,’ which… isn’t actually much, but I imagine it’s all that we’ll get.

In other news, he also decided to clear the air on some of Xbox’s other policies and initiatives. Discussing, for instance, why HDR compatibility for games like Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 was only present in the Xbox versions, and not the PC ones, Ybarra pointed out, correctly, that there aren’t a whole lot of PC monitors out there yet that support HDR.

Ybarra also promised that the upcoming Dolby Atmos functionality on Xbox will ‘eventually’ be compatible with everything, including third party apps, which makes it sound like it will be restricted to Blu Ray and UHD Blu Ray playback for now. Still, it’s good to know that won’t be the case forever.

It’ll be exciting to see how this, and all the other new things going on behind the scenes at Xbox, pan out in 2017. It should be an exciting year for Xbox fans, that’s for sure.

ESRB Details For Honor’s Gore And Intense Violence

A closed beta showcasing For Honor is coming in the early part of 2017 but those that have already gotten a look at the game are finding it quite impressive. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (better known as the ESRB) revealed further details about the game and has given the title a “Mature” rating.

When pointing to the reason why For Honor earned that rating, the ESRB pointed to blood, gore and violence. The board pointed to melee fights in the title which are splattered with blood. Some of the cut scenes include severed heads as well.

You can check out the entire rating explanation below and decide whether that makes For Honor attractive for you. The game is going to be coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC on February 14, 2017.

“This is an action game in which players control one of three factions (Samurai, Vikings, Knights) in a protracted battle for dominance. As players complete mission objectives, they use swords, axes, and spears to kill enemy warriors in melee-style combat. Blood-splatter effects occur frequently as enemies are killed; some areas depict large bloodstains and impaled heads on spikes. Players can also perform finishing attacks (e.g., decapitation, impalements) that are sometimes highlighted by close-up camera angles. Cutscenes depict additional acts of violence: bound warriors decapitated by swords; characters executed with weapon strikes to the head.”

Nier Automata Quests, Plug-in Chip System Detailed

As part of the recently released demo for Nier: Automata, creative director Taro Yoko, producer Yosuke Saito, lead game designer Takahisa Taura and game designer Isao Negishi sat down with voice actress Keiko Isobe (who plays Operator 60) to experience the demo and share some new details.

Negishi noted that sub-quests could be received from the Resistance base once the player talks to leader Anemone. From this point onwards, you can pick up other quests from the Resistance members. Then there’s the Plug-in Chip system which is used to equip different skills.

These can vary from converting slashes to ranged attacks, stopping time after dodging, slowing down time temporarily, countering attacks and much more. Chips can either drop from enemies or acquired from vendors.

You can also check out the gameplay to see how Negishi fares on the Very Hard difficulty. Nier: Automata is scheduled to release on March 7th 2017 for PS4.

PS4 Pro Bandwidth is Potential Bottleneck for 4K

With more and more developers looking to hop aboard the 4K train, especially with the release of Sony’s PS4 Pro, there’s been plenty of talk about the limits of the console in achieving a 4K standard. Speaking to Tarsier Studios’ Dave Mervik, who’s currently working on Little Nightmares for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Sony increased memory bandwidth on the PS4 Pro but maintained largely the same overall RAM as the base PS4 (except a certain amount being freed up for devs). Could this become a bottleneck down the line for 4K development?

Mervik noted that, “The bandwidth is a potential issue, especially when running 4k, but it’s probably a thought-through tradeoff that they found necessary to make.” That trade-off is especially apparent when the PS4 Pro has double the GPU power of the PS4. “The extra GPU power is necessary for running games at 30 fps or higher in 4k. That’s probably the goal that Sony had in mind for the games released for the Pro,” Tarsier told us.

Given that most games don’t run at native 4K on the PS4 Pro and developers using custom techniques such as checkerboard 4K rendering, it’s safe to assume that the Pro was Sony’s first big push towards 4K gaming. Next year, the Xbox Scorpio will (most likely) be the only console that will push the medium towards native 4K in AAA modern games, Microsoft claims.

But what are your thoughts on the PS4 Pro and its success in improving visuals for games? Let us know below.

Star Wars Battlefront Series May Not Have Conquest Mode

DICE has faced a fair amount of flak since the release of Star Wars Battlefront but the multiplayer-focused shooter has managed to build itself up fairly well with the addition of new maps, modes and heroes (despite the recent Rogue One: Scarif troubles). The future also seems somewhat positive for the sequel Star Wars Battlefront 2 which will apparently be bigger than its predecessor.

That being said, one direction that the original and sequel won’t be going in is Conquest, a staple of Battlefield’s multiplayer experience. Associate design director Dennis Brännvall responded on Twitter to Conquest possibly being included in Battlefront with, “I don’t think we’ll go that far into our other franchise but there’s certainly things to learn from both.”

It’s possible that Star Wars Battlefront 2 could learn from new additions in Battlefield 1 like the well-received Operations mode. What do you hope to see in the series, either with the current game or the sequel? Let us know below.

Destiny Weekly Reset: Will of Crota Nightfall, Mysterious Paper Fortunes

The weekly reset has come and gone in Bungie’s Destiny, bringing a familiar set of activities with new modifiers attached. The Nightfall this week is The Will of Crota but it’s not the Year One version. This is the revamped strike that came with The Dawning and features plenty of Ogres out to get you. Modifiers include Epic, Void Burn, Juggler, Catapult and Exposure so have fun.

SIVA Crisis Heroic playlist modifiers include Heroic, Solar Burn, Brawler and Ironclad, which sounds like some kind of fun for Sunbreaker Titans. However, perhaps the most interesting thing to come from the weekly reset is the presence of mysterious paper fortunes out of the many gift boxes in the Tower.

Players have reported receiving fortunes such as “An unusual amount of engrams will turn into strange coins” and “Your enemies will tremble before you”. Though the actual content is up for debate, the fortunes are real so share yours below.

Pokemon Sun and Moon’s Next Global Event Focuses on Island Scan

A new Global Event has gone live for Pokemon Sun and Moon, involving players all across the world while guaranteeing some great rewards if successfully completed. The Global Event tasks players with catching or defeating one million Pokemon. Sounds easy enough but these Pokemon must be found using the Island Scan feature, which can only be used after 100 points are earned from scanning in-game QR codes.

The event will began at 8 PM PST/11 PM EST on December 26th and will be running till 23:59 UTC on January 9th 2017. This is the second Global Event for the 3DS title and much more forgiving than the first which tasked players with capturing 100 million Pokemon worldwide. The end result was 16.5 million, thus explaining why this month’s event is slightly more realistic.

What are your thoughts on the new Global Event in Pokemon Sun and Moon? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite’s Story is “Huge Pillar”, Mega Man X Fits “Very Deeply”

If you’re wondering about the story of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, the next big crossover fighting game from Capcom featuring its stable colliding with Marvel’s, then you’ll be happy to hear that it’s a major focus.

Capcom’s Michael Evans told PlayStation YouTube that, “Another huge pillar of the game is going to be the story. For the first time, we’re getting to tell the story of how the worlds come together. Mega Man X is going to fit very deeply into the story along with Captain Marvel.”

Marvel Games’ Mike Jones also discussed how characters were chosen this time around. “Speaking from the Marvel side, the core of everything we, from filmmaking to TV to publishing, and games, is storytelling.

“And so with the new emphasis on the cinematic story mode and the story of how these two universes collide, and how our characters meet and what that means, [that] drove a lot of the creative decisions for what characters to use.

“If you want to enjoy a story that features all these characters that you wouldn’t see in any other Marvel game, or any other Capcom game. This is where you’re gonna see, you know, Mega Man X meets Iron Man, and what does that look like, what happens?”

Evans further said that, “As you can see, it’s taken a little bit more of a cinematic approach. And it’s gonna have an amazing story about how these worlds came together for the first time.”

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite will be releasing on Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2017.

Former Sony Online Boss’s New Game Has Been Cancelled

When John Smedley left Sony Online Entertainment, later renamed to Daybreak Games, it was to work on a brand new roguelike action RPG called Hero’s Song as part of his new company Pixelmage. Hero’s Song launched on Steam Early Access roughly two months ago.

Now Smedley has announced that Hero’s Song has been cancelled and Pixelmage will be shutting down. Smedley shared the news on Twitter with the Pixelmage website informing players of the studio’s closure.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I have to report that Pixelmage Games is going to be shutting down and we have ceased development on Hero’s Song. For the last year, our team has worked tirelessly to make the game we’ve dreamed about making, and with your support, and the support of our investors, we were able to get the game into Early Access.

“Unfortunately sales fell short of what we needed to continue development. We knew going in that most startups don’t make it, and as an indie game studio we hoped we would be the exception to that rule, but as it turned out we weren’t.”

Those who purchased the game will receive a full refund and can either go through the normal process on Steam or send an email to Indiegogo to receive their money back.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Is A Must Have Game, Says Analyst

Red Dead Redemption is now a major brand- the original game was one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, widely beloved, and sold over 14 million copies worldwide. Red Dead Redemption 2 is already one of the most anticipated games of the coming year- and with Rockstar coming off of the success of Grand Theft Auto 5, which broke every record there is in the book, and became the highest selling game of all time, it’s expected to sell pretty well, too.

That is because, according to Michael Goodman, who is the director of digital media strategies at Strategy Analytics, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the rare breed of must have title that will do well no matter when it is released.

“Whether or not Red Dead 2 fits within a certain launch window, this is a must-have title and it doesn’t matter when [Rockstar Games] launches it. It can take on all-comers in fourth quarter or there is other stuff in fourth quarter that might hurt sales a bit. If that’s the case then they’ll have to take a look and say, ‘well, am I better off launching it during a different time of the year?’” Goodman said in an interview with We Write Things.

“People talk about the second quarter being a dead period for games, but I think it’s more of a function of companies haven’t launched product then. It’s not necessarily that people won’t spend in the second quarter, it’s that games haven’t launched in the second quarter,” Goodman continued, adding, “I think one of, and I’m borrowing a page from Microsoft when I talk about this, I just quite frankly think it makes sense. [Rockstar Games] is trying to spread out their launches instead of trying to dump everything in the fourth quarter. They’re are only so many dollars to be had where if you just spread [out the releases], you’ll quite frankly find that much more success.”

I can’t really say that I necessarily disagree with much, if any, of his reasoning- though I do firmly maintain that no matter what part of the year Red Dead come out, it will do as well as it would have done anyway. This is not a game that will be affected by something as petty as release schedules for other games.

Death Stranding Uses Photogrammetry Techniques To Scan In-Game Data

Hideo Kojima has always been known for his relentless march towards the latest and greatest tech available on hand; his games are technical marvels, and there is truly a joy to be derived for the technology enthusiast at dissecting just al the new technologies that went into their making, and all the really creative ways Kojima put them to good use.

With Death Stranding, however, you would have been forgiven had you thought this would not be the case. After all, Kojima is using a third party’s engine here with Guerrilla’s Decima Engine, isn’t he?

However, Kojima being Kojima, he has managed to figure something out after all. Speaking to Sugoi Japan in an interview, Kojima talked about the new photogrammetry techniques he is using for Death Stranding. “Death Stranding uses Photogrammetry scans made from 360° photographic data, and performance capture technology to record actor/actress performances. These are then integrated and rebuilt in the game engine. These methods are completely different from those used in movies, so performers need to first think “This sounds interesting, I’d like to try this new stuff”, or they won’t take part in the project,” Kojima said.

Honestly, I don’t understand the exact specifics, but I do understand that Kojima is going to painstaking lengths to recreate a sense of space and scale in his game. Death Stranding truly looks set to be great.

Atlus’ New JRPG Project Will Be A ‘Complete Departure’ From The Persona Series

Now that Atlus, the development team behind Persona 5, has announced that it is working on a new title it’s time to figure out just what the new project is all about. That project, codenamed Re FANTASY has not had the beans spilled entirely but the team did put out a release where it talked quite a bit about what this new game won’t be.

It appears Atlus is looking to go in a different direction than its other projects. In the announcement the company said this new secret project is going to be a “complete departure” from the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series.

“For the game itself, though not much information is available as it is in the earliest of stages of development. But a few things are apparent from the outset – it will be a complete departure from the SMT and Persona series, and a return to the roots of where the Japanese games industry began with fantasy role-playing games. However, as ATLUS has always challenged the prevailing styles of RPG design, it is at the core of Studio Zero’s mission to do this again, imbuing the traditional fantasy RPG with a distinctively ATLUS flavor. Hashino is tapped to be the game’s director, along with other legendary ATLUS names. Along on the journey will be Shigenori Soejima from the ATLUS Artwork Team, responsible for creating the character art of the denizens of this new fantasy world, and Shoji Meguro from the ATLUS Sound Team, who will breathe life and depth into the new world as music composer.”

“While Hashino is focusing entirely on building Studio Zero from the ground up, Soejima and Meguro will maintain their responsibilities to the Persona series. Likewise, P-Studio, the production team in charge of Persona, will continue to operate at full strength to develop new entries to fulfill demand for the series. As the startup, Studio Zero will be a driving source of innovation for all ATLUS development.”

Battlefield 1 Rent-A-Server Future Features Revealed

DICE’s Battlefield 1 allows players to rent their own servers to host custom games on and while the launch of said support was kind of lacking, the developer has outlined some features that will be added in the near future.

Along with an admin control panel that lets you kick and ban players along with a VIP list for players who will receive priority when in the server queue. Password protected servers will also be a thing with all equipment available but these are unranked without any avenue for EXP or progression.

Other features being considered include spawning on Squad Leader only; switching off the Behemoth vehicles; and Whole Magazine Reload which was present on previous Hardcore modes.

The server browser is also up to be redesigned since it doesn’t highlight rented servers well enough currently. “In an effort to address this, we are looking into giving all rented servers priority in the server browser. This means that rented servers will always be displayed at the top of the server browser.”

Thoughts on all these new and potential additions? Let us know in the comments.

Fallout Shelter Holiday Update Brings New Quests, Outfits

In line with the festive season, Bethesda has released a new update for Fallout Shelter, its mobile Vault management title, that adds some new content. Said new content includes Christmas-themed decorations, quests and outfits that can your Vault-dwelling denizens can don. Though the developer didn’t exactly reveal the nature of the new quests, it is known that the holiday update will only be around for a limited time. We’ll find out when it ends in the coming days.

Fallout Shelter has been fairly successful for Bethesda since launching last year, adding tons of new quests, companions and Vault additions for erstwhile builders. Though the critical consensus is fairly average (mostly due to the grindy nature of it all), the mobile title still has a pretty strong following to this day.

Sniper Elite 4 New Trailer Showcases Protagonist Karl Fairburne

Rebellion Games have released a brand new trailer for their upcoming Sniper Elite 4. The second trailer in their ‘Intel’ series shows off the game’s protagonist, Karl Fairburne, who is described as ‘one of the Allies’ most effective operatives.’ That’s a hell of a billing to have to live up to, you know?

The trailer basically gives us details and information, and flavor backstory, on Fairburne in the style of an intelligence dossier- it’s pretty well made, and is probably going to catch more eyes than just another generic montage of spliced together war shooter footage would have. That said, we do get some gameplay footage in this trailer regardless.

Sniper Elite 4 will launch next year, on February 14 2017, on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. If you pre-order the game, you can get your hands on some exclusive camo rifle skins, and on a bonus mission, Target Fuhrer, which lets you attempt to assassinate Hitler and, hey, change the course of history in the process, too.

Forza Motorsport 7 Leaked By Fanatec CEO

At this point, we all probably expected a Forza Motorsport 7 for next year- over the last few years, Microsoft’s racing franchise has settled into a nice, comfortable rhythm of a Motorsport game releasing one year, and a Horizon game releasing the next. With Forza Horizon 3 releasing this year, it was Forza Motorsport 7‘s turn next year.

However, even with the general predictability of the franchise’s release schedule, Microsoft are unlikely to be happy with Fanatec CEO Thomas Jackermeier outing the existence of Forza Motorsport 7. Posting on the Fanatec forum, the CEO of the company that makes Forza compatible racing wheels said “If you would like to add something, please let me know. Please tell me any wheel/pedal/shifter related issues you have in FM6 and let us know what new features you would like to see supported in FM7.”

He then actually proceeded to follow up on his post with more details about Forza 7. “I had a very good meeting with them and I am happy to report that there is a good chance that a lot of things will change for the better in upcoming FM titles. There is a new person who is responsible for physics and force feedback and this is a “wheel guy”. He is a real world racer with car engineering background and very familiar with PC simracing.

“The PC market seems very important for them and they are aware that this market is dominated by wheel users. Therefore we will intensify our co-operation and get the best out of the games for wheel users. I cannot confirm at this point what features can be implemented but the interest to do so is very high.”

So hey, at least the leaks make Forza 7 sound like a bit of a departure from the last few games in the series- given how stale the otherwise excellent Forza 6 felt, this is probably going to be a good thing overall.

Destiny Xur Inventory for December 23rd: Plan C, The Ram, No 3oCs

Leave it to Bungie to make sure that Destiny’s Exotic vendor Xur plays Scrooge at this time of year. Xur has returned to the Tower and can be found near the Speaker, where he will remain until December 25th, 2 AM PST.

Here’s the hilarious bit: Xur isn’t selling Three of Coins this week. This is a consumable item which increases the chance of an Exotic Engram dropping from your next Ultra kill, though it’s potency has been suspect for a while. Whether it’s a bug or not, this week will be relatively Exotic-less for some folk.

As for the other Exotic items, you can pick up Empyrean Bellicose (Titan helm), Knucklehead Radar (Hunter helm) and The Ram (Warlock helm), each for 13 Strange Coins.

The Exotic fusion rifle Plan C is also on sale and provides an excellent counter to the current shotgun meta. It’s yours for 23 Strange Coins. Legacy Engrams this week will grant Year One helms and cost 29 Strange Coins.

NieR Automata Demo Out Today on PlayStation Store

Platinum Games’ NieR: Automata is out next year on PS4 and PC but there’s hope yet for those who want to try it early. A demo for the game is already available on the Japanese PlayStation Store and will be out later today for North America and Europe.

If you can’t wait, then head over to the Japanese PlayStation Store and download the demo now. It’s only 4.69 GB but you’ll need a Japanese PSN account.

NieR: Automata is set in the far future where humanity has retreated to the Moon and must deal with extinction at the hands of otherworldly robot forces. Fortunately, a number of combat androids have been created to tackle these machines. You’ll control YoRHa 2B, a katana wielding android as she hacks and slashes through the opposition.

NieR: Automata releases on March 7th 2017 for PS4 with the PC release yet to be dated.

Overwatch Dev Teasing New Events, Maps, Custom Games Browser for 2017

In a recent “Year in Review” video for Blizzard’s Overwatch, director Jeff Kaplan discussed plans for 2017 and what players could look forward to for the future. Along with more events, some which will be themed on holidays and others that will be more surprising, Kaplan said the new map Oasis was on track for release in early 2017. More maps are coming though they’re fairly experimental at this stage and new modes are also on the cards.

It’s worth noting that though more heroes are being designed, only one is looking “promising” and moving through the art design process. Doomfist, perhaps? As it stands, many of the heroes being created are prototypes and may never see release. Speaking of heroes, Blizzard is also looking into balancing Sombra, though it will wait to see how her overall usage and mastery pans out before testing out its tweaks.

In 2017, the team will look to update the communication wheel to support up to four emotes and voice lines at a time. A server browser for Custom Games is also being looked at and it seems an early version will arrive next year in the initial months.
