Battlefield 5 DICE Looking To Improve Frostbite’s LOD, Performance, Image Stability

DICE is bringing the next Battlefield to consoles and PC later this year and some of the company’s job listing are providing hints about what the developers are up to regarding the game’s development. In this case, we don’t actually know that the job listing in question is related to Battlefield 5– it could be about any, as of yet unannounced, DICE game currently in the works. But given that it’s related to the Frostbite Engine, a set of game development tools which will also be utilized by Battlefield 5, there is a good chance that it may be related to the game after all.

The listing indicates that DICE are looking to improve their Frostbite engine’s LOD, performance, and image stability. “Work on a game team at DICE to plan, implement and evaluate a system for computing optimal view distances for mesh LOD transition,” the listing reads. “The work will be carried out in the Frostbite game engine and the goal is to accelerate the current workflow, to improve image stability and to get more optimal LOD distances from a performance perspective.”

This might just be general housekeeping- after all, if DICE are maintaining an engine, they need to make sure it is updated and improved constantly to keep it competitive. On the other hand, it might just be something specific to a single game that they are developing, and that game may be Battlefield 5.
