Microsoft Is Lacking In Its ‘Commitment To Gamers’ – Postal Redux Dev

The current generation landscape is a bit of a bust- the PS4 dominates everything, with the Wii U being all but irrelevant, and the Xbox One being outsold by the PS4 by a ratio of 2:1. The Wii U’s low marketshare makes sense, given its lack of marketing and third party support, as well as its fundamentally unappealing proposition for the larger market.

But what about the Xbox One? Why is that console being trumped so thoroughly by the PS4? What is it that Microsoft lack at the moment that Sony have? In an exclusive interview with GamingBolt, Running With Scissors, the developers of Postal Redux, were asked that question, and their answer was revealing.

“[Microsoft lack] a commitment to gamers,” Vince Desi, the CEO of Running With Scissors, said.

That is a hell of a bold answer to give- it is also one that maybe held true in 2013-2014, when the Xbox One was more of a bastardized media box hastily retrofitted into a game console at the last minute, than anything else. However, today, it is a far different story, and Phil Spencer has managed to emphasize games over everything else at Xbox. Desi’s answer, however, makes it seem as though that first impression stuck- is that why Running With Scissors did not put Postal Redux on Xbox One? Was it more about it being a principled stance for them? As it turns out, no- pragmatism trumped idealism in this case, and the reason for Postal Redux not being on the Xbox One are more mundane.

“We’re planning to do it,” Desi said. “[But just] being a small true indie developer, we can only do one console at a time.”

So maybe there is hope for a future port of the game for Xbox, then.
