Blizzard Entertainment’s beta for Overwatch, which will be going public later today for all platforms, has had a positive reception from all thus far. However, one noteworthy absence was the lack of the Competitive Mode which was seen in the closed beta.
“We worked extremely hard to get competitive play in the game for closed beta. We’ve been reading feedback from the community and taking it all to heart. As a result, we’ve temporarily disabled competitive play for open beta so that we can rework the system and make it better.” A “redesigned” version could release after the game launches but no information on what it will include or when exactly it will land has been revealed.
Competitive Mode was originally accessible by level 25 players and was a means to unlock new spray, dialogue and icons along with including its own tiers to rank up over seasons. Overwatch is out on May 24th so we’ll see how Competitive Mode pans out in the coming months.
