Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs 2 will be kicking a major aspect of the publisher’s open world titles that’s been present for years – it won’t feature tower unlocks, a feature made famous by Assassin’s Creed and which essentially served as fast travel points and the means to open up missions around a certain location.
In Watch Dogs 2, you’re more focused with gathering followers than finding new locations and completing missions associated with them. “Players start with a few followers in [hacking group] DedSec, but pretty soon you realise you’re going to need more if you want to pull off big operations. So you start free-roaming.
“Every time you get followers, it’s like you’re unlocking the DedSec hivemind. You’re also unlocking new knowledge, new operations, new co-op missions. And then organically you hit those end-game milestones.”
So while there may be plenty of things the open world action adventure hasn’t changed, it’s at least removed one age-old feature in an attempt to be more relevant. Watch Dogs 2 is out on November 15th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
