God of War Dev: We Have Shown Less Than 1% of The Game

The upcoming God of War game looks absolutely great- it’s just the kind of change in direction in terms of structure, gameplay, and setting that the series needed, and it looks like this new game will be the kind of breath of fresh air that the franchise needed. Naturally, such a dramatic shift in direction has caused some questions among the fans- and the director of the game, Cory Barlog, took to Twitter recently to answer some of them.

In response to some fans queries, for instance, he confirmed that the time honored God of War tradition of opening chests is going to be in the upcoming game too; Barlog also said that while he hopes to make the new game big and long and ambitious, the new game probably won’t hit 100 hours of play time in length, as many fans seem to be hoping.

Barlog also confirmed that God of War‘s take on New Game Plus, where you can replay through the campaign with special unlocks, will be making a return in the new game, dropping a hint that he hopes to have other similar content in the game as well.

Elsewhere, Barlog also discussed his inspirations for the upcoming game, citing The Last of Us, The Road, and Resident Evil 4 as his primary sources of inspiration for the new game, among some other things. Barlog also said that he would discuss his game making process for, and the development of, the new game, after it has launched as well, via some Making of videos and the like, in all possibility.

Finally, responding to one fan who is apparently disappointed with the direction that the series is taking, noting that very few of the final game has been shown off yet. “Hopefully you stick with us, we have shown less than 1% of this game. It’s different, but I think its gonna be great,” he said.

Everything I hear of the new game makes me more excited for it, and Barlog seems to have a very clear and consistent vision for where he wants the series to go. I can’t wait to see how he goes about it. God of War is set to launch exclusively on the PlayStation 4 next year.
