PS4 Pro Captures 4K Screenshots But Only 1080p Video

Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro won’t be running games at native 4K – it will simply be upscaling 1080p titles to run at “4K quality” while also providing features like HDR to the experience. Here’s something interesting though: While the PS4 Pro will support 4K video playback (but not ultra-HD Blu-ray discs), it will only capture 1080p video at 30 frames per second. This is still higher than the standard PS4 which captures video at 720p resolution and 30 FPS while screenshots are at 1080p resolution.

This was confirmed to Polygon by Sony when it noted the usage of the Share function. It also revealed that screenshots could be captured at 4K. Remote Play and Share Play could also run at 1080p resolution and 60 FPS depending on one’s network and it makes sense to restrict this given the bandwidth hog that 4K-esque streaming could provide. YouTube and Dailymotion will run at 1080p and 60 FPS while Twitch goes up to 1080p at 30 FPS.

The PlayStation Pro will release in November and retail for $399. What are your thoughts on its current 4K functions? Let us know in the comments below.
