Quick Time Events may be despised now, but they were originally pioneered by Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue 3, where they were considered to be an effective technique for interactive storytelling. With Shenmue 3, it seems like they will be back in full force, in spite of modern players’ distaste for them.
In a development update for Shenmue 3, we get to see loads of footage for the title (which includes the aforementioned QTEs). We also get a message from Yu Suzuki himself. “It has been a long time since our last update, and we are painfully aware you all have been eagerly awaiting the monthly report,” the update says. “All of us here have been so wrapped up in the development process that time seems to have flown by…
“But no excuses! We apologize for the lapse and will do our best to bring you updates every month. It is beholden on us to keep you informed (without giving too much away of course!) and will do so as promised.”
You can check out the new video for yourself below. Shenmue 3 will launch on PS4 and PC. No release specifics beyond this have been shared yet.
