Star Wars Battlefront 2: Dev Explains How They Are Adding Depth

Star Wars: Battlefront II looks excellent for a number of reasons, chief among them being the fact that it expands on the original in every single way. To be very fair, though, that isn’t really a big feat, considering how light on content 2015’s Battlefront was. And it looks like developers DICE feel the same way.

Recently, in an interview with with PlayStation Lifestyle, DICE’s creative director Bernd Diemer was asked about what areas DICE felt were lacking in Battlefront that they wanted to improve on in the sequel, to which he said that the development team wanted to, first and foremost, add more depth to the gameplay.

“On the gameplay side, we said, ‘Okay, we have the core gameplay…we’ve got it nailed’,’ said Diemer. “There are things we need to improve and we want to build on, but the main thing we wanted to add was depth. Give more reasons to stick around, try out different heroes, try out different trooper types, and that’s why we introduced classes. There’s a little bit more variety in the team-play, not everybody is the same, and you can now form your own squad if that is your thing.”

That’s definitely not a surprise, and it’s good to see that DICE are actually listening to one of the most major criticisms that Battlefront drew upon release. Additionally, it also seems like Battlefront II will be PS VR compatible. In a PlayStation newsletter (via Reddit), a thumbnail for the game contains text in Danish which, when translated, reads “PlayStation VR Compatible”. This definitely sounds interesting, especially when you think of flying X-Wings in VR mode.
