Nintendo NX Is A Handheld-Console Hybrid - Report

Just what is the Nintendo NX? We don’t know, and Nintendo won’t tell us, in spite of the machine apparently being on course for a March 2017 launch. However, it appears as though Eurogamer may have managed to get the scoop on Nintendo’s enigmatic next machine- a number of sources have apparently confirmed to Eurogamer that Nintendo’s upcoming NX will be a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers.

Essentially, the way it will work will be tat the NX will be its own handheld on the move, an independent unit with its own screen and controller. At home, the handheld connects to a dock, and two controller modules on each side detach, creating a full fledged home console.

The NX will apparently be using Nvidia’s Tegra chip to power itself, and will be based on ARM, and not x86, architecture. It also sounds like the console will use cartridges as its primary physical media for games delivery, and that it will be running on its operating system, as opposed to a fork of Android, as was previously speculated. The console will have no backwards compatibility, and will apparently be unveiled this November, with a simple focus for all of its marketing- being able to take your games on the go.

Nintendo refused to comment on these rumors and speculations when they were contacted by Eurogamer. “Nintendo has not made any new official announcements regarding NX which is due to launch in March 2017,” a Nintendo spokesperson told Eurogamer when contacted about this story. “As such [we’re] unable to comment on the various rumors and speculations circulating.”
